Tom Carter Benefit at Nightlight August 18

I’ll be playing a set at the Tom Carter benefit at the Nightlight in Chapel Hill on August 18. I’ll be joined by Jason Bivins on guitar. Change of plans, will be a solo set. From the tentative schedule I’ve seen, I should be going on last, but that is always subject to change.

Also on the bill is Beloved Binge, Body Double, Crowmeat Bob, and Snake. If you’re one of those people who still use Facebook, there is an event page. Admission is $5 (think about donating more if you can). Show is set to start at 9:30pm.

For more information about Tom, read Grayson Currin’s article in the Independent.

August 18 – Tom Carter Benefit at Nightlight

I’ll be playing a set August 18th at the Tom Carter benefit at Nightlight in Chapel Hill. More details to come soon.

For those of you that don’t know, Tom Carter came down with a serious case of pneumonia while on tour in Europe with Charalambides. After spending weeks in a medically induced coma, he is facing many more weeks of recovery time before doctors will let him leave Germany to fly home for further recouperation. More information is available here. Please help out either by organizing or attending any of the world-wide benefit shows, by donating to The Robert Thomas Carter Irrevocable Trust, or by buying his music through any of the labels/shops that are donating sales such as Three Lobed, Important Records, Volcanic Tongue and many more.

If you don’t know the music of Tom Carter, you can check out examples on past episodes of my radio show. Search under Tom Carter, Charlambides, or Spiderwebs.

An Evening of Improvisational Music in Carrboro

I’ll be playing April 13th at Nightsound Studio in Carrboro (116 W. Main St., behind the Music Loft). Also on the bill: David Jordan, Will Ridenour, Lucy Vander Kamp, Bryce Eiman, Mitchell Bratton, Scott Berrier, probably a few others. Music starts around 8pm. (Thinking about visiting our friends at Peccadillo after the gig.)

Tatsuya Nakatani at Kings 2/13/12

I feel very fortunate to be playing with the great percussionist Tatsuya Nakatani at Kings Barcade in Raleigh on Monday February 13, 2012 with Crowmeat Bob, Carrie Shull, Xopher Thurston, and Craig Hilton. Show starts at 9pm and is free!

Tatsuya is also playing Sunday February 12, 2012 at the Nightlight in Chapel Hill with the Nakatani Gong Orchestra. The local edition of the NGO is scheduled to be Chris Eubank, Lisa McQuay, Carrie Shull, Alexis Mastromichalis, Dan Partridge, Crowmeat Bob. Show starts at 9pm and is $6.

UPDATE: I will be playing with the NGO on Sunday too! There is video of the NGO’s performance on Friday at the Kennedy Center here.

The blurb from The Independent:

Experimental percussionist Tatsuya Nakatani mixes the acoustic rumble and clatter of expressive drumming with the metallic cries of bowed cymbals and gongs. His Monday Kings show is one of two Triangle shows in as many days (Sunday night he brings his exciting new gong orchestra to Chapel Hill’s Nightlight). In Raleigh, he’ll pair his usually unusual solo set with a collaborative improv featuring notable local avant-players Carrie Shull, David Menestres, Craig Hilton, Xopher Thurston and “Crowmeat” Bob Pence. Some of the most poignant sounds of this evening will be delicate, nuanced and whisper-quiet, so come prepared to listen only. —Corbie Hill
